Fun education for the children

Free handouts at the Safety FairSchool Shows
Invite us to set up a booth at your children's school during Safety Fairs and other special events!

We visit schools, clubs, church groups, scouts, etc. We'll set up a booth and hand out free coloring books and other educational materials about safe boating, taking good care of our waterways to reduce pollution, and protecting the manatees. We also have live shows for the children on these topics.

Example: On March 31, 2004, Debbie Minnick and Chuck Harkins visited Kingswood Elementary School. They put on a joint Sea Partners and public affairs presentation for 120 fourth grade students, which included the kids visiting an imaginary beach for a picnic. The beach was inhabited by six wild sea animals (actually hand puppets). The children learned the concepts of "reduce, reuse, recycle and rethink." They also learned the importance of remembering safety first. Then they had a "whale" of a time viewing the" Inky " video. The children were amazed to learn that sea animals cannot always distinguish food from marine debris and learned how important it is that everyone help "be part of the solution -- stop pollution." In addition, Chuck shared boating safety tips, emphasizing the importance of wearing life jackets. Chuck delighted the children by handing out coloring books and whistles. Debbie and Chuck answered numerous questions, and flyers were sent home to the parents to explain the topics discussed and included our website address. They were so well received that they were asked by other teachers to come back as soon as possible for additional presentations.

The response from school presentations has been overwhelming and Flotilla 74 has received numerous requests for such presentations. These visits are tremendously rewarding and provide our future boaters with valuable information. To arrange for a presentation at your school or organization, please contact our Public Affairs Officer.
